Small Area bcet~tions
• As stipulated in Rule 4.05.2(3)(a)(b) the Division may grant exemptions from Rule
4.05.2(1) which states "All surface drainage fran the disturbed area, including
disturbed areas that have been graded, seeded or planted, shall be passed throuc~
a sedimentation pond, a series of ~~~*~*ation ponds, or a treatment facility
before leaving the permit area". If the operator demonstrates that ~~~*+tation
porrls aryl treatment facilities are not neoe, sary for the drainage to meet the
effluent limitation of 4.05.23 and if the disturbed surface drainage area within
the total disturbed surface area is small, and exemption may be given.
Mine 3 has several areas which fall within the guidelines of Rule
4.05.2(3)(a)(b). These are described below:
1) M3S Access Area -includes sane 4 acres of disturbance adjacent to the
intersection of Ooimty Roads 179 aryl 33. Flaw from this area travels through a
diversion to a culvert leading to a rack filter.
2) Ditch P1 Area -includes some 1.6 acres of narrow strip which is bordered
by Ditch P1 on the west arri County Road #179 to the east. Flow collects at and
• moves through a culvert some 750 feet north of the intersection of County Road
#33 with County Rnad #179. All flow is filtered by established vegetation or
conveyed to a rock filter before reaching Middle Creek.
3) Homestead Ditch Dcemption One -includes 16.8 acres of 1983 seeding upslope
of the Hanestead Irrigation Ditch. The area was seeded with fast-establishing
grasses, aryl was contour furrowed. CYCC has agreed to provide a demonstration
that the area does not contribute excessive sediment loads to the irrigation
ditch. 'Ih;c demonstration will include the collection of samples from the ditch
for analyses of Suspended Solids (both before aryl immediately after a
precipitation event) during irrigation flow, and an a~caccma.+t of erosion
potential.
4) Middle Creek Office Area -includes 2.0 acres surrounding the Middle Creek
Office oonsistirg primarily of driveway, storage, and parking areas. Flow fran
this area is collected by a ditch around the perimeter of the exemption, and is
channeled to a rock filter aryl oil boar before entering Middle Creek. No
. hydraulic fluids, pesticides, fuel, or other such materials will be stored
outside the building here.
MR 91-14 2.05-21 Revised 05-16-91
