Wildlife Impact Statement
Page 2
2.0 Big Game Species (con['d)
cover is available adjacent to [he proposed disturbance. Moreover, existing
disturbance in the adjacent areas, i.e. the Colorado-U[e pump house and adjacent
Highway 13, have reduced big game use at [he proposed site. Therefore, the
gravel pit should have little impact on current big game activities.
3.0 Mitigation
The current mining and reclamation plans are designed to reduce impacts to
wildlife. The proposed area of disturbance is small. Additionally, the reclama-
tion efforts are designed to reduce any long-term impacts on wildlife species.
The open pit left following gravel removal should enhance wildlife use of
the area. An irregular pond bottom will be left along with perhaps a varied and
irregular shoreline. This will increase waterfowl use and allow for possible
development of a small fishery. Revegetation efforts and seed mixes to be used
will support these efforts.
Reference:
Colorado Division of Wildlife. 1978.
