~~ SCOTT, COX & ASSOCIATES, INC. <<mxdting rngirx>~~rs • :un~et~cv>
December 6, 2006
Hart Environmental
P.O. Box 1303
Boulder, Colorado 80306
Attn: Mr. Michael Hart
Project: 06605
Dear Mr. Hart:
At your request, and pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Boazd (6.4.19 -Permanent Man-Made Structures), Mr.
Ed Glasgow, P.E., Scott, Cox & Associates, Inc. reviewed data submitted to my
by Hart Environmental, has reviewed existing geologic data (boring logs) from
the neighboring Idaho Creek Pit and has conducted a field inspection of the
proposed Camenish Borrow Pit (to be located north of Weld County Road 20 ~z
and west of Weld County Road 7 in Weld County, Colorado). Additionally, we
inspected the performance of the existing cut faces at the adjacent Idaho Creek
Pit and the nearby Cottonwood Pit. The purpose of this inspection and data
review was to provide you with offset recommendations between areas
proposed for excavation and existing permanent man-made structures. We
understand that the only item that meets the strict criteria requiring such offset is
a dirt road.
No borings or test pits have been completed at this site. The available boring log
documentation (which we obtained during the investigation for the foundation
systems of the proposed -silos on the adjacent Idaho Creek Pit) shows that the soil
profile at that site consisted of an average of approximately 3 feet of overburden
(consisting of topsoil, clay, sand and undifferentiated materials logged as
overburden) atop approximately 12 feet of sand and gravel. The groundwater
table was noted at a depth of approximate 2 feet below the existing ground
surface. Claystone bedrock was encountered below the sand and gravel. We
understand that you antiapate approximately 5 feet of overburden underlain by
approximately 15 feet of sand and gravel, based on experience at the adjacent
Idaho Creek Pit. Therefore, this report we will assume a maximum mined depth
of 20 feet.
II ;U ,lih lbr.~l L'~~iil~li•i.f~iL ic~f~n ~{U ;I11 _;II4. 111 {Iiil I.iA ~;n ;; l-~,l-;,~~-
