Specific practices for sand and gravel facilities may include, but are not <br />limited to the following: . <br />Chedc(X) <br />appropriate <br />BMP for this <br />faality. <br />1. Paved areas <br />a. Sweep or wash on a regular basis. <br />b. If liquid chemicals or petroleum products are spilled onto the paved area, <br />clean them up immediatety and dispose of properly. Make sure <br />employees know the cleanup procedures and disposal requirements. <br />2. Truck Parking Area <br />a. Each driver should check under his/her truck each morning for leaks of <br />oil or other fluids. Leaks should be repaired as soon as possible. The <br />ground must be Leaned of the staining whether it is paved or unpaved. <br />b. Be consistent in parking spot designations so that if a leak is indicated on <br />the ground, the truck can be identfied. <br />3. Maintenance Areas <br />a. If steam cleaning is part of the maintenance procedure, it must be done <br />in a designated area and: <br />(f) Steam clean on a concrete slab which drains to collector sumps. Do <br />not let the sumps overflow. <br />(2) Install a water treatment system to treat the Leaning water for reuse. <br />If treated for discharge, you must have a discharge permit. <br />(3) Clean the solids sump regularty and let the solids drain into the <br />sump. <br />(4) Stockpile the solids in a covered area, ample, and test for hazardous <br />constibrents. If determined to be hazardous, dispose of properly. <br />(5) Either cover. the wash slab to keep rainwater otf, or install adequately <br />sized tanks to store the rainwater for use as make-up water in the <br />steam cleaner. <br />(6} Cover all components of the water treatment plant and particularly <br />the oil recovered from the oil water separation. <br />b. Keep oity parts, rags, and containers covered. <br />c. Properly store under cover, all hazardous materials and hazardous <br />wastes. <br />d. Keep batteries under cover and caps in place. <br />x4. Stockpiles <br />Be sure that stockpiles do not block a drainage area. <br />5. Steam Cleaning Facilities. <br />See BMP 3(a). It should be noted that in some areas, the liquid can be <br />disposed of into a sanitary sewer after proper treatment such as an oil <br />water separator. <br />31 <br />
