z.o ~,:T;;oDUC~rlola <br />' Contained in this 6 volume series is a permit applica- <br />tion to mine federal and private coal at Iorthern Coal Company's <br />(NCC) proposed Meeker Area Mines. The Mines ai"e located in Rio <br />Bianco County, Colorado eight miles northeast of the small town <br />of h7eeker. The facilities will consist initially of one under- <br />ground mine named Rienau No. 2 (G Seam). Coal has been produced <br />i'rom the Northern No. 1 (FF Seam) and Rienau No. 2 (G Seam) Mines. <br />Other facilities associated vrith the mining operations will include <br />offices, 'oath houses, maintenance and storage buildings, coal <br />handling facilities and a refuse disposal S'acility. <br />Because the proposed mining involves federal and private coal leases, <br />this permit application is being submitted to the Federal Office of Surface Mining <br />(OSM) and the State of Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Boazd (MLRB). The <br />application is written in chapters, each of which deals with a specific discipline of <br />information. Ccntained within this information aze responses to the proposed <br />permanent regulatory program of OSM and the proposed permanent regulatory <br />program of the MLRB. A regulation index (Chapter A) cites the federal and state <br />regulations and presents the section of this permit application which deals with each <br />specific regulation. <br />Presented in the following chapters aze the Legal, Financial and Related <br />Information, Mine Operations Plans, Environmental Resources Information, Aban- <br />donment and Reclamation Plans, Environmental Resources Protection Plans, Other <br />Special Permits Required and Operation Performance Standards. <br />The proposed surface facilities east of Highway 13/789 have been drawn <br />based on the best available geological, geophysical, economics and technological <br />• RECEIVED <br />a-s JU6 id 1~®~ <br />MINED UND RECLAMATION DIVISION <br />Cob.
