Wildlife
• Recommendations by the Division of Wildlife for reclamation
for wildlife habitat were, "Revegetate with native vegetation
all drill sites and portal areas. Develop water for
wildlife wherever possible. Pinyon-juniper disturbed
should be piled for use by small mammals." (See Exhibit D).
Although water development is not applicable to this mine,
the remaining recommendations will be followed, with
vegetation being a mixture of both native and introduced
species.
Topsoiling
There has been no stockpiling of topsoil prior to the
construction of the mine site. The more finely textured
waste dump material will be spread following scarification
of the area if it proves to be suitable as a growing medium.
Revegetation
Revegetation is planned for all affected lands except
those roads that were pre-existing. (This is a stipulation
in the lease agreement). At present, on recommendation
by the surface owners, the Bureau of Land Management, the
following seeding mixture is proposed:
• Species
Rate of Avolication
(Broadcast)
Crested wheatgrass
Western wheatgrass
Four-wing saltbush
Indian ricegrass
Yellow sweetclover
4 pounds/acre
4 pounds/acre
3 pounds/acre
2 pounds/acre
3 pounds/acre
TOTAL BROADCAST RATE
16 pounds/acre
The seedbed will be prepared by harrowing and seed will
be broadcast or hand sows at the rate specified above.
All revegetation details (mixtures, fertilization; methods,
mulching, etc.) are subject to change due to experimentation
and technological advances. All reclamation will be of
the dryland type without benefit of irrigation.
The proposed seed mixture is readily available at several
commercial seed dealers in the Grand Junction and Montrose
area. Preferred time of planting is late summer to early
fall.
r
-2-
