Special Conditions: IHe~e hst conditions relating :pee die ally to the proposed shuqure or work aush oiired by thu permit l: <br />(a) That if an archaeological ur historical site is exposed, the permittee <br />shall contact [he State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service; <br />telephone (303) 839-3394 and (41~) 556-1741, respectively, It is requested that <br />the permittee delay work which might affect the site until it has been evaluated by <br />cultural resources authorities; <br />(b) That the proposed crossings for the overflow channel and slough shall <br />allow normal free flow of water, i.e. culverts should be utilized; <br />(c) That a minimum 175' undisturbed greenbelt shall be retained between the <br />river, the existing DeBeque gravel pit, and the proposed pit. A minimum 75' <br />undisturbed greenbelt shall be observed on either side of the overflow channel and <br />backwater slough, These greenbelts will ensure continued use of the area by <br />wintering bald eagles; <br />(d) That the mining of the backwater slough (wetland) shall be minimized if <br />possible; <br />(e) That mining of the pit shall occur in phases beginning on [he east side of <br />the slough with mining in a general north-westerly direction (from the highway <br />toward the river) and terminating with the island pit. If possible, mining on the <br />island should be avoided because of the critical habitat found there; <br />(f) That an island shall be created on the southeast side of the slough in <br />addition to the two proposed for the northwest side. Ttinimum size for these <br />islands should approximate one half acre in size; <br />(g) That pit sides and bottoms should be irregular in order to enhance aquatic <br />life forms. Peninsulas are desirable; <br />(h) That several areas (2-3) sloped at 5:1 and 150-200 feet in length shall tier <br />created to encourage aquatic emergents and provide mud flats for waterfowl• <br />(Special Conditions continued on Page 5). <br />-- -- - ~ 3 <br />
