• 3.0 Proposed'IYeatmentProces
Please see the attached flow sheet for an overview of the treatment process, Lyntek
dmwing 07004A-F-OI, (See Appendix A for all drawings)
Energy Fuel's is proposing to have a mobile, trailer-mounted treatment system
constructed to treat this mine discharge water. The layout of the various treatment
components within the trailer is shown on drawing 07004A-G-01. 'Ihe treated water will
be released to the existing natural drainage. The resulting sludge will be collected in a
lined pond for future disposal of the formed solids.
3.1 Untreated Water Storage Pond
Water from the mine will be pumped at a sufficient flow rate to keep the underground
workings dry for day to-day work. The water will be pumped directly to the treatrnent
system or to an Untreated Water Storage Pond with a single 60.mi1 higlydensity
polyethylene (HOPE) liner or equivalent. A 60-mil HOPE liner will typically have a
permeability of 1 x 10"12 centimeters per second or less. Details of the pond design are
shown in Lyntek Drawings 07004A-C-10 (Map T-1) and 07004A-C-11 (Map T-2).
The Untreated Water Pond, as shown in Table 3.1 below, has approximately 21,400 cubic
feet of storage (equivalent to 160,000 gallons of untreated water) with an additional 1.5
• feet of freeboard (equivalent to 56,000 gallons in freeboard capacity). The pond will be
incised and will have excavated slopes of 2H:1 V with a total depth of 10 feet. The pond
can hold 11 days ofprojected ground water inflow into the mine (i.e., conservative
estimate of 7 GPM or 10,000 gallons a day) plus 50,000 gallons of direct precipitation
and projected surface water runoff from a future ore pad in the event of a 100-year storm
event. Under normal circumstances, an operating volume of 20,000 gallons would be
stored in the pond. This would allow for nine days of continued pumping at 7 GPM in the
event that the treatment system needed to be repaired.
Table 3.1 -Untreated Water Storage Pand Sizing
Len th to 85 Ft.
Width to 62 Ft.
Len th Bottom 45 Ft.
Width Bottom 22 Ft.
De h 10 Ft.
Side slo 2:1
Free Board 1,5 Ft.
O orating Volume CuFt 2 673
Galons 20,000
Total Volume CuFt 21,383
Gallons 159,800
To prevent overflow of the Untreated Water Pond, a level sensor will be installed in the
pond and will be interconnected to the mine water pump. If the pond ever reaches the
• preset maximum level, the level sensor will automatically shut off the mine pump until
the water level in the pond is lowered. Installation and operation of the level sensor is
discussed in more detail in Section 6.0, Monitoring Systems.
