53 <br />• <br />Other Recent Surveys <br />Portions of Tracts 8, 13, and 14 have been subject to an additional <br />survey that took place several weeks prior to the survey reported herein. <br />Dr. Joseph Lischka of the University of Colorado was engaged by W. R. <br />Grace and Co. to survey several proposed railroad rights-of-way that <br />pass through or are close to these tracts. He recorded 13 sites that <br />are germane to this study. At the present time, however, no information, <br />other than the Colorado Archaeological Survey Site Inventory Sheets, is <br />available to include in this report. <br />Of these thirteen sites, five were located outside the tract bound- <br />~• <br />aries but will certainly be subject to indirect effects if coal mining <br />is undertaken within the tract boundaries. These sites include: 5MF423, <br />5MF424, 5MF430, 5MF432, and 5MF459. <br />Five additional sites were located by Lischka's group which are <br />located within the boundaries of Tracts 8, 13, and 14. Two of these were <br />encountered on the northern side of the Yampa River, where our crews had <br />not penetrated because of access problems. Two of the remaining three are <br />located in "Field checked, rejected" areas, and the third is in an area <br />that CSU crews had investigated after the CU survey work. The five on- <br />tract sites are: SMF409, 5MF425, 5MF460, 5MF463, and 5MF474. <br />Three additional sites have been recorded twice, both by the slightly <br />earlier CU survey project and by CSU. Since the two survey projects were <br />separated by only a few weeks, there was no possibility of referring to <br />the Colorado State Archaeologist files to determine if these sites had <br /> <br />
