Therefore, a corridor, roughly 200 m.
wide, was surveyed from the saddle in the SE; of Sec. 21, T5n, R92w, fol-
lowing the jeep trail eastward into Ralston Draw. From the point at which
the trail passed Ralston Spring, survey coverage extended eastward along
the seasonal drainage into the SW; of Sec. 23, T5n, R92w. A two component
site, prehistoric open camp/historic open architectural, and two petro-
graph sites were located in Ralston Draw.
Additional areas in Sec. 16, the state school section, and Sec. 21
1.
were along the access route used to enter Secs 8, 9, and 10, T5n, R92w.
An open lithic site, 5MF346, was located within the Tract 8 boundary. The
area between the northern tract boundary and the•Yampa River in Secs 2
and 3, TSn, R92w, was surveyed primarily because this area would be sub-
ject to secondary impact. Also, the crews had to traverse nearby in or-
der to complete the survey of area actually within the tract.
Site Distribution
A total of seventeen sites were encountered in the survey of Tracts 8,
13, and 14 (Tables 8-10). Of these, five were on and seven were adjacent
to Tract 8; two were on Tract 13 with one site adjacent; and two sites
were located within the boundaries of Tract 14.
The twelve sites in or near Tract 8 are distributed in four groups

containing from two to four sites. The largest concentration occurs at
the foot of a long slope adjacent to the confluence of Ralston Draw and
the Yampa River, in Round Bottom. This concentration is comprised of
sites 5MF325, SMF338, 5MF339, and 5MF340. An open lithic site, 5MF325,
is located at the mouth of Ralston Draw, on the terrace just above the
floodplain. The other three sites are some 600m, west of 5MF325,
