site. The Yampa Banc o~ Utes are known to have been in <br />this area in historic times ar.d the red rock art noted • <br />above can probably be attributed to this group. There <br />is a distinct possibility o` considerable depth. in the <br />fill at both shelters, maybe up to four feet. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />If the Yampa/Williams Fork site is selected, further <br />survey should be undertaken for the strip mining area anct along <br />the shores of any reservoir which might be constructed. Should <br />the dam be built below the confluence of the Yampa and Williams <br />Fork, Site 5MF281 will be flooded and excavation of the two <br />rockshelters at the base of this site would be necessary. These <br />two rocksh2lters probably represent occupation by the Yampa Sand <br />of Ute in the upper levels, at least. There is a possibility of • <br />older materials in these shelters also. <br />• <br />
