85 <br />• Edge wear: one with heavy battering and four with minimal wear. <br />Size range: largest diameter, 66-105 mm.; smallest diameter, 56-86 mm.; <br />and thickness, 17-46 mm. <br />Choppers: combination choppers, Type IZB. One Specimen. <br />Description: similar to a biface chopper, Portions of the chopping edge, <br />however, are only unifacially worked. <br />Material: quartzite. <br />Edge wear: heavy battering on all edges, especially the bifacial edge. <br />The opposing edge has been subjected to impact severe enough to remove <br />several small spalls from the edge. <br />Size range: length, 89 mm.; width, 89 mm,; and thickness, 45 mm. <br />cores. Nodules of toolstone bearing numerous flake scars and no use marks <br />were recovered during the survey. They sort into two major catagories: <br />usable cares, from which more flakes could yet be struck; and expended <br />cores, which are much smaller and have been reduced to an unmanageable <br />size. The expended cores could be used as a basis for a core tool, but <br />there is no visible evidence of such on the cores collected. <br />cores: usable cores, Type r. Four specimens. <br />Definition: relatively large angular fragments of fine-grained lithic <br />material, with numerous percussion flake scars and striking platform <br />preparation. There is no evidence of use as anything other than a source <br />of toolstone for the manufacture of flake tools. <br />Material: chert. <br />Size range: length, 61-96 mm,; width, 44-76 mm.; and thickness, 20-58 mm. <br />Special notes: sizes are skewed by the presence of one large specimen, <br />which is also the only one with any patterned flake removal. Additionally, <br />one specimen could indicate the use of the punch technique for flake <br />removal. <br />Cores: expended cores, Type II. F1Ve specimens. <br />Definition: small irregular fragments of fine-grained toolstone with many <br />percussion flake scars, crushing at impact points. <br />Materials: quartzite and chert. <br />Size range: length, 38-62 mm.; width, 22-41 mm.; and thickness, 18-25 mm. <br />Ground stone. The ground stone collection can be divided into manos, or <br />hand stones, and metates, or nether milling stones. No other types <br />of ground stone were recovered. The metates recovered are almost all <br />fragmentary, and consequently difficult to evaluate in terms of basin <br />shape and depth. From the portions extant, however, it is apparent <br />that most of the metates are either flat slab or shallow basin types. <br />• <br />
