More specifically, the permit area is 0.5
miles south of the Colorado-Ute Hayden Station Power Plant and borders
County Road 51B. Access to the site can be gained by travelling west on
Highway 40 from Steamboat Springs, Colorado and turning south on Twenty-
mile Road then west on County Road 51B (Exhibit B).
Gravel from the existing pit at this site is presently being used for surfacing
material on the coal haulage roads at the Seneca Coals, Ltd. Seneca II
Mine. The expansion of this pit is necessary for the continued usage of the
gravel at Seneca II and for the future Seneca II-W Mine south of Hayden,
Colorado.
• Exhibit D, Mining Plan, will describe all aspects of the mining operation.
Exhibit E will describe the reclamation of the gravel pit. Discussed in this
section (Exhibit D) are the topsoil salvaging and stockpiling procedures, the
overburden handling operations, the gravel extraction, and the backfilling
and grading operations. Also discussed in this section are the facilities,i.e.
utility lines, office, and impoundments. Refer to Exhibit D-I, Mining Plan,
for the locations of these facilities.
FACII ITIFS
Power Lines. There are presently seven sets of high tension power lines that
run in a north-south direction through the proposed permit area. Four of the
sets are suspended by steel towers, the other Three by H-frame wooden
poles. Peabody Coal Company (PCC) has agreed to a "no disturbance"
boundary of SO radial feet around the steel frame and 50 radial feet around
the wooden frame structures as per instructions from Western Area Power
Administration (see Appendix D-I) and Colorado-Ute Power Association. In
• addition, excavated slopes would be no steeper than I:I outward from the
undisturbed boundary. Even though no mining will be conducted around the
D-I
