ROBINSON
BRICK ~
COMPANY ~
~ ~ ~
~ ~
August 13, 1982
Mr. Mark Loye
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Permit #78-11, Buffalo #1 Mine
Dear Mr. Loye:
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
---,-~ ~__e. ,--_
~'~uu ~ .~ 982
f,9!ieD I-r~?~D RECUif~4!~.110.1~
Cola Ce;1i. of f~!atural ilescel~es
I would like to comment on your recommendations in the same order
as listed in your inspection report dated July 13, 1982.
The legal description as given in the permit describes the land
that is leased by Robco. At this time the only active areas within the
described property are in the SE 1/4 NE 1/4 of Section 33, and NW 1/4
NW 1/4 Section 34, T75, R62W. We are presently in the process of
completing an exploration program for the entire property. When completed,
we will be able to better describe all areas that could be affected.
I would like to respond to your second recommendation in two parts:
The first being the area south of the County road, and the second being
the area north of the County road.
The area south of the road was suppose to be reclaimed last year.
Because of the overall poor condition of the economy, Robco has cut
back their operations substantially. This caused the reclamation of
this area to be postponed until this year. 14e are now planning on
reclaiming that area this fall. The reclamation will consist of
reshaping the overcast slopes to 3 to 1 or flatter, then spreading
the stockpiled overburden and stockpiled topsoil over the entire area
and finally seeding with a dry pasture seed mix.
The area north of the County road that was mined or is actively
being mined, was disturbed prelaw. The calcined clay that was above
the raw clay was completely stripped and overcast on the slopes prior
to 1976. This was during a time when Robco did not use the calcined
clay. There now remains one mining of the raw clay to be completed
in this area. After that mining is completed, the entire area will be
smoothed. Since there is no topsoil available, none can be replaced.
As was stated in the Buffalo #2 letter, dated this same day, there
was not any recoverable topsoil when this area was first disturbed and
there was none present (due to the prelaw stripping) at the time when
P.O.
