hE)C E <_OE9BY PE 3837719632
P, 01
•
jcl Re,~etation: Because the original vegetation in the western portions of the effected
area is spazse to nonexistent, and because the Marble liistorical5ociety has requested that the
marble waste piles remain exposed, only limited revegetation is anticipated by Sierra.
Revegetetion will involve placement of topsoil on existing access roads and facilities areas. The
cost estimate below assrunes transport of topsoil)zom the Carbondale azea. However, if Sierra is
able to recover topsoil from the areas to be covered by the waste piles, such as south of the
existing waste piles, this material will be sufficient to satisfy the reclamation requirement. The
total area to be revegetated is estimated at approximately 14,000 square feet or about 1 /3 acre.
No major additions to the existing roads arc planned by Siena other than to extend access to
waste piles. 1'he total area to be revegetated is not anticipated to exceed 1/3 acre over any part of
the operating life of the quarry,
(i) The depth of soil is planned to be six inches, comparable with the sparse soda in
the area. Samples of soils in the area will be analyzed to establish quality.
(ii) The access roads and facilities azea will be active throughout the life of
operations, so topsoil placement and revegetation will occur only after mining is complete. Seed
beds for the grass and forb mix will be prepared by ripping, diseing, raking or scarifying of any
compacted areas to approximately 6 inches, followed by placement of topsoil, the soil left rough
Fertiliration will be based on the identified needs of the soils placed for revegetation. Since the
soruce of the imported soils is not specifically identified, fertilization requirements cannot be
established at this time. Only minimal fertilization is planned however during establishment of
the grass mix in order to minimize any eft'ects on water quality in the area, and then only where
soil tests iadicate nutrient deficiencies for the plant species to be established. Ongoing
fertilization is not considered appropriate for creating self-sustaining vegetative growth. No
more than oue or two fertilizer applications would, in any rase, be expected to be necessary.
(iii} The U.S. Department ofAgriculture Soil Conservation Service provided the
following recommendations (except Cicer MiUcvctch has been substituted for Yetlow Sweet
Clover on the recommendation of CDMG) regazdnng seed type and quantities:
(I) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6)
PLS Seed Total PLS
Requited Percent of Rate Per Specie Bulk
PLS Rale9 Species in Beetles/Acre Planned Planned Seed
/9u9 Mixture (11 x t21 cr (~,~,(4) E~IlnilD
Pubescent Wheatgrass 14 30 a.2 1 4.2 5 Ib.
Western Wheatgrass 16 30 4,8 1 4.8 5.5 Ib.
Smooth Brome 13 30 3.9 1 3.9 4.5 Ib.
Cicer Milkvetch 7 10 0,1 1 0.1 1 Ib.
Note: PLS Is Pure Live Seed.
