imnroventents and drilling should have no impact on the pond and thus no impact on this species
• i! it were to occur.
Rantor~
\n nests were located during sun•eys of the aspen stands along the road and near the drill site.
Some portions of the stand further from the road appeared to have conditions more suitable for
nesting aceipiters, but no nests were located.
Drill Sitc 11'90-1h
11'cll Site and Acces Road Ilabitat Suncl'
This site is located along a ridge top adjacent to the Dove Gulch Ponderosa Pine Plantation at
appro~imatcly 7760 feet. An estimated G>0 feet of access road has been constructed to the drill
site. 'I~hc area is dry with no water features «ithin the sun~ey area. 'fhc habitat is dominated by
late-scral stage oakbrush, serviecbem• and chokechem north of t}te drill site. and road. 1ltere is
a good understory of grasses and (orbs in this area.
.A draw is located in the northeast yuadnnt of the sun~ey area with a relatively decadent stand of
30-50 foot aspen. The canopy is open and there are several snags. 71te drill site is well buffered
to the north by a banJ of dense, tall oakbrush, sen~iccbem• and chokecherry which will protect
the areas below from disturbance by drilling activities. 'fhe south half of the sun•cy site is
• iuedominantly ponderosa pine. "there is c~idence of considerable elk use attd a limited amount
~~f deer use. 'Ibis area probably receives the greatest amount of use during the fall artd spring
v:utsilirnt periods.
The young age structure and size of the ponderosa pines in the stand provided little suitable
nesting habitat for birds. During all bird sun•eys and nesting raptor surveys no nests were
obsen•ed within these stands.
[3ecausc of the slopes and vegetative butlers found in the area, there should be minimal impacts
of drilling operations on wildlife.
•
