Comments and remarks:
From a letter by Robert Fuller, USDA NRCS (Cortez, CO):
The current plant community consists of introduced pasture grasses. Orchard grass and smooth
brome are the two predominant grasses. Timothy is evident in the adjacent, undisturbed site
along the river. These 3 grasses tend to make up fhe bulk of irrigated orsub-irrigated grass
pastures established in the area. The site is heavily grazed and poorly managed, especially from
an irrigation standpoint. Bindweed, a perennial, noxious weed is beginning to invade the field.
Musk thistle and Western whorled milkweed are also present.
Improvement during mining: Because of the current condition of the area in and around the
permit area, it was recommended that actions be taken to stabilize and improve the overall
condition of the areas not disturbed or prior to disturbance:
1. Keep livestock off the entire area for at least a year.
2. Renovate entire stand of grass by chiseling, using a single pass in the
direction of irrigation flow.
3. Mow the first year after renovation for weed control.
This information has been given to the landowner and he has been asked to perform this work.
Since this involves areas outside the permit boundary and affected lands, it is not included as a
commitment by the Applicant to carry out these recommendations.
Four States Aggregates, LLC 15 MAR 2001
Application for Permit: Line Camp Pit M-2001-001 FSA-LCP-D2-001
