19316 Wazd Creek Road
Cedaredge, CO 80413
February 15, 2005
Delta County Planning Department
Delta County Courthouse
501 Palmer Street, Suite 115
Delta, Colorado 81416
RE: SDOS-001.
Applicant: Benson Brothers
Gentlemen:
~ ~~~~
~: ~ ~_ t~
`'n''- FEB 1 7
2005
When my husband and I were looking at retirement, we were anxious to leave the Denver
metropolitan azea to get away from many elements which we found extremely
unattractive and offensive; such as noise, pollution and traffic. When we found the Colby
Canyon azea, we felt that we had found an area that met our requirements; that is a semi-
rural residential area with large lots, no noise or pollution and little traffic. We were
aware of a history of mining in the azea but it was just that -historical.
With approval of the Benson Brothers' Red Canyon Mine, the very things that we found
attractive in Colby as a place to live will be negated. Since Benson Brothers purchased
the property only a few months ago, it appears that the rights and privileges of the current
residents of the azea aze under threat of being disregazded.
The County Commissioners themselves seem to be confused as to just what development
is desirable in this azea. Recent actions of the Commissioners have approved several
subdivisions which will potentially bring even more residents into the azea. On the other
hand, the Commissioners aze looking at approval of the Benson Brothers' application
which, if approved, is almost guaranteed to produce a pool of dissatisfied taxpayers.
,. ,. ~:,.
