February 14, 2005
R.EC~I~TEID
~A
FEB 1 6 2005 .
Deaz Delta Planners,
F3Y=
I want to start by saying I am very fond of Dwight and Kazen Benson. I appreciate that
they are hard workers and have created a successful business.
On the other hand, I oppose the proposed Coalby Canyon Rock Quarry. Although I
live slightly over 2 miles from the Benson's property, our home is on Ward Creek Road
and I am worried about the safety of my family. My children, ages 7 and 9, have recently
been riding bikes on the road in front of our home. Large trucks will not be able to stop or
even slow down quickly and I know their speed will not be controlled by anyone,
especially since there are no speed limit signs.
Some other issues include: (1) the use of generators instead of tapping into the nearby
electrical lines, (2) the noise from the crusher, (3) the dust in the air and (4) the
destruction of the gorgeous landscape (ironically to obtain landscaping material).
l want to ask you a huge favor. Before you make any decisions, please take some
"alone time" and go to the proposed site. Climb the hill to an area with a view, now sit
down and close your eyes. As you breathe in the sweet clean air, listen....The wings of
the nearby nesting hawks may surprise you but all you will hear is nothing. Now open
your eyes and take in the beauty... from the enormity of this 360 degree view down to
the simple delicate moss at your feet. Now imagine what your decision can do to this
area.
1 take pity on anyone who is responsible for ruining mother earth for our children.
Now throw this letter in the pile with all the others and disregard it ,just like you
planned. Sleep well.
Sincer y,
Kimberlee Eckhart
16869 Ward Creek Road
Cedaredge, Co 81413
970-856-6164
