division approval in the canyon a few months ago. Most of the folks in the canyon have
bought property here and have built hopses for their retirement over just the past 7-8
yeazs. There are no industrial operations of any kind I. guess I have to ask, how do you
define compatibility? There aze some folks that still raise chickens and a few steers.
Some even sell a few apples and apricots, but no one is operating heavy equipment
beyond that required to put in new foundations and maintain Coaiby's water supply.
Anything else would be unacceptable. So is the proposed pit.
The applica~ has discussed the reclaiming of the azea after the rape. That is out 15-20
years from now. Many of the retirees in the canyon won't see it. Or would want to.
Have any in the depazhnent walked the site of the propose pit? If you haven't, I think
you should before making any recommendations concerning approval See for yourself
the potential problems concerning drainage in the re-structured land, and the potential
flooding on the backside of the cliff area above Croissant's property. Picture the huge
"dish" that will be ripped out of the terrain and visible by a significant number of
neighbors forever, in spite of that noted in section P (I guess the scar is not part of a
Scenic Byway so it doesn't matter). You will be amazed at the incredible size of the scar
and the number of mountain crests and ridges that will disappeaz. While you aze up on
the mountain looking down on that which will be gone, consider the constant back-up
beepers from the ripping tractors as they pull the material down the hill, the whine of the
generators, the pounding of the hammers and crushers operating 10 hours a day, five days
a week. For 15-20 years. Do you believe nobody will heaz it, given the terrain, as it now
or will be later?
If you aze still not convinced, consider that the water mist used to mitigate the dust
produced by the crushers is not used to mitigate the clouds of dust produced by the
ripping and dragging operations.
Finally, speaking of water, Coalby Domestic Water Company would kill to gain access
to 4000 gallons of water a day to supplement their springs for drinking and other sundry
Purposes.,
Regaz
~ A
Patrick Barton
20828 $rimstone Road
P.O.
