6.2.4 Length- frequencies
•
Length-frequency data for the three sampling periods are shoxn
on Figure b-8 for white suckers. These data Sndicate that probably
two year-classes of fish were in the Study Area in October, two in March,
with a few larger individuals, and primarily two ir. July 1977• Overall,
white suckers ranged fYom approximately 21- 320 mm, but few fish were cap-
tared over 150 mm. Visual observations led to the conclusion that more
larger fish were present but were not as readily captured.
Bluehead suckers xere not common compared to white suckers, and
u
length-frequency data are not sufficient to clearly indicate year-classes.
It is significant that no small fish that xould correspondln the first
year class were present, but there is a small grouping of xhat is
probably two-year fish. Overall, bluehead suckers ranged fYom approxi-
mately 66- 145 mm. In the data of the Division of Wildlife from the
previous year (Table 6-10), the bluehead xas also less abundant, but
the sizes were much L3.rger than those captured during the present study.
FLannelmouth suckers were least abundant of any of the suckers. The
available data indicate primarily one-year fish in March and two-year fish
in July. No flannelmouth larger than 90 mm. were taken.
Sculpins were relatively abundant, but tended to escape betxeen
large cobble xhen shocked. Length frequency data indicate primarily the
first two-year classes are present
Standard lengths ranged from approxi-
mately 26-80 mm.
Speckled dace also appear to be primarily one or two-year fish,
with a few large= fish that are probably three-year fish. Standard lengths
range from approximately 21-90 mm.
Fathead minnows xere captured primarily in July. Length-frequency data
. indicate two-year classes & it seems u..^.li];ely that sa^.y fish survive to their
third yea'. Standard length ranges from approximately 11-55 mm.
6-~
