No sport £lsh were taken in October and a total of only 4 species of
fish were identified i~om samples.
Ir. October the western white sucker xas most numerous in samples,
and between the xhite sucker and bluehead mountain sucker these species
made up 50;$ of the catch numerically and 69y of the catch by weight.
Tne second most abundant group was the cyprinids, with 1 species (Colorado
speckled dace) contributing 3'~ of the catch numerically and ~ by weight.
One other species (the Colorado mottled sculpin) constituted the remainder
of the catch of the North Fork.
At one Stevens Gulch Station, SG-4(d) there wes sufficient water to
support small fish and two species were captured (Western white sucker and
Colorado speckled dace). 6,2.2 Abundance
During N!arch the speckled dace and mottled sculpin xere most abundant
in samples, but the three species of suckers provided the bulk o£ the
• biomass, cont=ibuting ~6,°b of the xeight. Eight species were identi~°ied from
the March sample. Species not reported before from the North Fork. were
the fathead minnow (Pimeuhales promelas} and the green' sunfish (Lemmas
cyanellus). The first and only trout was also captured at Station NF-2.
The July sampling was taken primarily by seine instead of electro-
shocking because of equipment problems. For this reason data are qualita-
tive and no estimate was made of biomass in the areas sampled. Sampling by
net is not as effective in capturing the mottled sculpin, which often
seeks out rock crevices, resulting in this species being poorly represented
in the sample. Of the species captured suckers were again dominant. Both
numerically and by size the xhite sucker was the dominant fish. No new
species were captured, but the fathead minnox was abundant in the slow pools,

6-4
