Fish xere sampled using a Coffelt model BP-3 backpack shocker. Character-
istics of the unit arei 250 or 500 V, pulsed DC, 0-3 amps, 70 pulses sec. The
• lox voltage setting xas found most effective, since xater conductivity xas high.
Fish xere also taken xlth a ~ inch minnox seine, especially during the
last sampling period when xater floxs xere very low.
During electroshocking the stream section was sampled by xalking back
and forth across the stream, holding the electrodes approximately 5 feet
upstream and lz to 3 feet apart. One person shocked xhile a second person
netted any stunned fish. Areas were usually shocked for 40-60 minutes.
All fish captured were preserved in 10% formalin in labeled jars and
returned to the laboratory. Weights and lengths were taken on preserved
specimens and identifications made using 3eckman, 1974,&Baxter & Simon, 1970
as refe_~ences. In addition to fish identified in hand, some fish were also
seen but not captured during the shocking operation. These were recorded by
estimated size range, number, and in some cases species.
•

6-z
