Demonstration Area >Y1
• Demonstration Area art is located in the northern portion of Mine 3, and is comprised of
some 40 acres of reclamation. Approximately 5.0 acres (associated with the old county
road) was seeded in 1986, and is surrounded by the remaining 35 acres which was
seeded in 1979.
The area -weighted average of the ECCS evaluations for the parcels in Demonstration
Area 1 yielded an average condition value of 16, which places the area in the stable
erosion condition class.
The USLE calculation, utilizing a topographic factor of 3.0 (Average slope length 500 feet,
Average slope gradient 10%) and a cropping factor of 0.07 (Grass, 49% average canopy
cover, 40% litter cover component) yields a calculated soil loss of 2.02 Tons/Acre/Year.
Using the C factor value for the Native Pasture Reference Area (Given that this
• community type is immediately adjacent to all three demonstration areas, and is the
predominant vegetation community surrounding Demonstration Area 11 of 0.08
(Appreciable brush, 50% Grass dominant canopy cover, 40% Ground cover/litter) while
holding all other parameters equal for sake of comparison, yields a calculated soil loss of
2.30 Tons/Acre/Year from similar undisturbed areas. Therefore, CYCC feels that
Demonstration Area 1 meets the requirements of Rule 4.05.2121.
If the actual LS factor derived from the adjacent undisturbed area LS reference points
(shown on Map 4A adjacent to Demonstration Area f111 is utilized, the average slope
gradient of 13% and average slope length of 350 feet yields an LS value of 3.6. This in
turn yields an annual projected soil loss of 2.76 Tons/Acre/Year from the immediately
adjacent undisturbed area. Conservative values for slope length and gradient were utilized
to derive the lowest LS factor value for the undisturbed area.
~J
TR 90-06 Exhibit 3 - 46 Revised 02/26/91
