Demonstration Area >Y1 <br />• Demonstration Area art is located in the northern portion of Mine 3, and is comprised of <br />some 40 acres of reclamation. Approximately 5.0 acres (associated with the old county <br />road) was seeded in 1986, and is surrounded by the remaining 35 acres which was <br />seeded in 1979. <br />The area -weighted average of the ECCS evaluations for the parcels in Demonstration <br />Area 1 yielded an average condition value of 16, which places the area in the stable <br />erosion condition class. <br />The USLE calculation, utilizing a topographic factor of 3.0 (Average slope length 500 feet, <br />Average slope gradient 10%) and a cropping factor of 0.07 (Grass, 49% average canopy <br />cover, 40% litter cover component) yields a calculated soil loss of 2.02 Tons/Acre/Year. <br />Using the C factor value for the Native Pasture Reference Area (Given that this <br />• community type is immediately adjacent to all three demonstration areas, and is the <br />predominant vegetation community surrounding Demonstration Area 11 of 0.08 <br />(Appreciable brush, 50% Grass dominant canopy cover, 40% Ground cover/litter) while <br />holding all other parameters equal for sake of comparison, yields a calculated soil loss of <br />2.30 Tons/Acre/Year from similar undisturbed areas. Therefore, CYCC feels that <br />Demonstration Area 1 meets the requirements of Rule 4.05.2121. <br />If the actual LS factor derived from the adjacent undisturbed area LS reference points <br />(shown on Map 4A adjacent to Demonstration Area f111 is utilized, the average slope <br />gradient of 13% and average slope length of 350 feet yields an LS value of 3.6. This in <br />turn yields an annual projected soil loss of 2.76 Tons/Acre/Year from the immediately <br />adjacent undisturbed area. Conservative values for slope length and gradient were utilized <br />to derive the lowest LS factor value for the undisturbed area. <br />~J <br />TR 90-06 Exhibit 3 - 46 Revised 02/26/91 <br />
