(June through August) precipitation. USGS records between 1976 and 1981 from a site
at Mine 3, show that 1980 had the lowest summer precipitation for that six year period
• (Table TR-86-3-31. Further justification for this cover value comes from reclamation
which was seeded in 1979 at Mine 3. The 1982 average cover was 47°~ and in 1986
was 71.6°~.
2. The applicant's discussion of water quality does not take into account the reduced
size, reduced dilution or the effect of evaporation.
RESPONSE:
E.C. readings taken from the ponds during the lowest period of the year are shown
in Table TR-86-3-4. These measurements indicate a maximum TDS of 2950 mg/I. In
addition, measurements from spoil wells in the area show a maximum of 3790 mg/I.
These numbers are below maximum recommended level for livestock (5000 mg/I-.
3. The interconnection with the ground water table is still unclear. Conflicting water
table elevations associated with the detention basins are found in the permit application
• (see page 2.05-168a' and Exhibit 31.
RESPONSE:
Inspections during the past 2 years reveal that the ponds have never been empty and
will provide a reliable source of water for stock (Approximate volumes: August 1985 M3-
N acre feet, M3-S 30 acre feet, August 1986 M3-N 2 acre feet, M3-S 30 acre feet).
•
TR 90-06 Exhibit 3 - 33 Revised 11/16/90
