Rm 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Division Manager:
_ _ I request that a public hearing be held in Pueblo, in the eve_ni_ng, on the Rio _ __ _
Grande Portland Cement Company's Reclamation permit.
My wife and I are registered voters and are property owners in the Pueblo,
Colorado regional area. My family of four is extremely concerned about the
adverse environmental impact this Company will have on the air quality and
contamination of the ground water aquifers in the Pueblo area. It is also my
understanding that the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company will be burning
coal to fuel it's operating facilities. This is outrageous!
At least two other major Colorado cities (Denver and Ft. Collins) have rejected
this Company. Why would you permit this polluting industry to establish
themselves in Pueblo? Jobs are neither worth the environmental damage nor
the adverse health effects to the citizens of the State. Furthermore, Colorado's
clean (drinkable) water resources are extremely limited. Prime examples of what
this Cement Company can do to our environment in Pueblo are contaminations
already perpetrated by gold mining permits.
I look forward to receiving your response explaining your position on this permit
issue.
Sincerely,
H berto Ornelas
14138 W.
