Bureau of Land Management
San Juan Resource Area
Federal Building 701 Camino Del Rio
Durango, CO 81301
Attn: Clyde Johnson
Dear Clyde:
iii ~iii~i~iniu iu ''
999
.5 a vtvr. ~.RUJHIN(J
24600 County Road P
Dolores, CO 81323
RE~E~~ED
~,tov ~ 2 1997
Bureau of Land Mana9erne
Dur~n9o, Colorado nt
This letter is in response [o the concerns that you had about the Stone gravel pit. After meeting with
you and Kirk at the site on November 5, 1997 you asked me to put in a letter what we discussed.
1. You recomended fencing 25 acres of the pit R keeping all roads open to travel. After meeting with
you and Kirk it was agreed that I could install a concolled acess acre on the South road
leading to the pit site, which would give me the security I need and still give acess to rood :4130 for
the public to use. No other fencine should be needed u-ttil reclamation beans.
2. You recomended a plan fer noxious weed controll. I also agree :hat weeds would need to br controlled
and I would av*ee to spray once or .^~ice a year as needed. In talkia¢ wi!h Kir4;, he thought the BL~I could
azsist me initally with this problem because of the weeds that airead}• exis on the si!e.
3. You recomended that the z;ess road leading to the site be constructed to County specitications. In our
meeting at the site it waz agre°„d to all that I ;.ould could use a "pit rttn" base to stabilize the road and
use smaller sravef for the drvin2 surface.
4. You wanted no top soil to ce used in construrioo of roads or other site wcrk. I would acrr_ to ties.
5. You recomended identi5n¢ and fencing the possible archaeoloaca] site in the Southwest corner of the
property. At our meeting at the site on November 5, 1997 Cristie with the BLS flaged out the perimeter
of the area being studied and agreed to have it fenced as so az possible to protect it. I will protect that area
Crom any mining, bu[ I have no control over public acess. 1 also would allow any acess to the BL~f to the
site after mining begins.
If this satines your concerns please contact Mr. Thomas Gillis of the Division of Minerals & Geology and
inform him so.
u for your cooperation,
`~areG~~
