-Z- Gravelly Foothill X1214 <br />d. High intensity thunderstorms are common from June through <br />August. Wind velocities for the area average 1.2 to 2.9 miles <br />(1.9 km to 4.7 km) per hour and are prevailing from the north <br />and northwest. Generally, March is the windiest month. Strong <br />winds during the spring cause rapid drying of the soil surface. <br />The sun shines approximately 71 percent of the time during the <br />year. <br />3. Native (Climax Potential) Vegetation <br />a. The plant community is about 85 percent grasses, IO percent . <br />forbs, and 5 percent shrubs air dry weight. The production is <br />predominantly made up of grasses; however, the numerous forbs <br />add a distinctive appearance to the landscape. The dominan[ <br />grasses are little bluestem, needleandthread, and prairie <br />sandreed.,,Less abundant grasses are sideoats grams, blue grams, <br />thickspike wheatgrass, western wheatgrass and mountain muhly. <br />Forbs that make up the plant community are dotted gayfeather, <br />Drummond milkvetch, Geyer larkspur, and slimflower scurfpea. <br />Shrubs that are most noticeable on this site ,are fringed <br />sagebrush and spreading eriogonum. <br />b.
