No pit groundwater will be pumped at any time into
Ponds #2 and #3.
Ponds #1, #2, and #3 are designed to handle all of
the sedimentation and runoff requirement for Pit #1. Pond #4 and
Temporary Impoundment #1 along with specified diversion ditches
which follow are intended to handle the sediment, groundwater and
surface runoff for Pit #2.
Pond #4 (see Figure 2) will collect sediment,
groundwater and surface runoff for all mining phases of Pit #2.
Surface water runoff upstream of the affected pit area will be
diverted by Ditches (A, B, and C see Appendix Q for sizes) either
to a draw north of the Pit #2 area or to Temporary Impoundment #1
which acts only as a gradient and then diverts the water into the
spillway and diversion ditch which follows the pit highwall in
order to discharge into the adjacent drainage to the east.
• Either diversion prevents water from entering the pit area or
sedimentation pond #4.
Pond #4 affected are changes year by year as Pit
#2 advances to the northwest, however, the worst condition is
when the total pit area has been disturbed, this area is 102
acres, Figure 4. Of this 102 acres, 68 acres will be disturbed.
• -40- (Revised 04/13/90)
