Tne baseline monitoring presently
conducted by the company can De reduced and still provide adequate
baseline data for permitting. The reductions are justifiable given the
proposed mine plan and the results of monitoring supplied to the Division.
I. t+lonitoring in the Alkalai Creek Drainage Basin
Previously, strip mine pits and surface facilities were planned in the
Alkalai Creek Drainage. Presently no strip mining is planned in Alkalai
Creek Drainage, antl all surface facilities are planned to oe placed on
upper terraces of the Colorado River and a small-ephemeral drainage to
the Colorado River. Permit baseline monitoring may De reduced on Nlkalai
Creek to the following:
a. Monitoring the downstream surface water flow and quality station
any Alkalai Creek (ALK-2) and eliminating the upstream station
(ALK-1) from monitoring.
b. Monitoring surface waters at the downstream station (ALK-2) monthly
for field parameters and quarterly for the reduced water chemistry
list.
c. Monitoring of Alkalai Greek alluvial gr
to only monitoring the downstream well
. water quality list.
d. All alluvial and talus monitoring wells
should be monitored monthly for ground
electro-conductivity, and temperature.
e. The bedrock well in Alkalai Creek basin
monthly for water levels and biannually
quality list.
ound quality may be reduced
quarterly for the reduced
(UW-2, OW-3 and OlJ-4)
water levels, pH,
(SK-2) should be monitored
for the reduced water

423 Cen!ennial Building, t313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
