Minc SerLmm(oti°n Pand OI S SlabrGly Anah.rrr • Pvgc
The Pond 1G foundation strength results were selected to represent the strength properties of the •
Pond 12 Foundation sods due to the similarity in index properties. The sample of the Pond 16
foundation soil was collected by excavating a test pit and sampling with a Shelby mbe. An effective
stress friction angle of 29.9 degrees with no cohesion was used m the stability analysis for the
foundation soils of Pond 12. The Pond l0 embankment strength results were selected t0 represent
the strength properties of the Pond 12 embankment fill due to the snttilarity in index properties
between the three samples from the Pond 12 embankment and borrow azea and the Pond 10
embankment. Th.. Pond 10 embankment shear strength test was performed on a remolded sample at
95% of the maxunum dry density from the standazd Proctor test (ASTM DG98). An effective stress
friction angle of 27.5 degrees with a cohesion of 338 psf was used 1n the stability anal}sis for the
Pond 12 embartkment soils. The consolidated undrained triaxial sheaz strength and index
classification lab results Cor the soils tesred at Pond 10, Pond 12, and Pond 1G aze included in
Appendii A.
TABLE 1
INDEX AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF SOILS FOR PONDS
SAMPLE ATTERBERG
LIMITS
(LL - PI) PARTICLE SIZE
DATA
(% passing No.
200) EFFECTIVE FRICTION
ANGLE, ~ EFFECTIVE
COHESION,
c' (psq
Pond 12 GI South End 46-25 92 - -
POnd 12 G2 North End 34-IG 59 - -
Pond 12 G3 Borow 33-18 81 - -
POnd 12 G4 Borrow 35-15 82 - -
Pond 121n-plate 50-34 86 - -
Pond 16 Foundation 49 - 29 96 29.9 0
Pond 10
Embankment 38 - 22 86 27.5 338
The soil parameters were input into the SLOPE/\C/ program to evaluate the static stability of the
Pond 012 structure.
