I Mayo and Associates, LC
1.1 Objectives
The specific objectives of this investigation are:
1. Prepare a compazative analysis of the geologic and hydrogeologic conditions
responsible for the major types and magnitudes of groundwater inflows associated
with coal mines in the Wasatch Plateau and Book Cliffs, Utah, and the Somerset
azea, Colorado,
2. Based on E Seam geologic information provided by MCC, utilize the comparative
analysis as a framework for evaluating the potential hydrologic conditions which
maybe encountered during E Seam mining activities, and
3, Estimate the general conditions and potential magnitudes of groundwater inflows
that maybe encountered during E Seam mining.
This report is organized as follows:
1. Comparative analysis of groundwater inflows
• summary of the Geologic conditions
• styles of groundwater inflows
2. Analysis of potential E Seam hydrogeology
3. Estimation of potential mining related groundwater inflows
1.2 Sources of Information
Known groundwater inflows and their associated hydrogeologic conditions were
compiled and summarized using information obtained from public domain documents,
including: reports and investigations published by the U.S. Geological Survey, Colorado,
Evaluation of Potential Groundwater Inflows 10 February 24, 2004
Associated with E Seam Mining,
West Elk Mine, Somerset, Colorado
