It formed in fine textured alluvium <br />from sha]e. The average annual preclpl'atior, is 16 to 20 inches. The <br />average annual air temperature Ss 44 to 50 degrees. The average frost <br />free season is 100 to 120 dais. <br />Typically, the upper part of the surface layer Ss dark grayish brown clay <br />loan about 5 Sr~ches thick. The loner part of the surface layer is dark <br />era }•ish brown silty clay about 8 inches thick. The subsoil is ~-3y silty <br />clay about 50 inches thick. The substrates: is era}• calcareous silty <br />clay to 60 inches or more. Cleyed colors ar.d mottles are common in the <br />• <br />su}soil and su?stratum. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Alamosa loam, Beldt silty clay <br />loam, d.imon seeped phase, and Sili clay loam. <br />Permeability is slow. Effective rooting depth is about 18 Snches. <br />Availab]e xater ca_racity is high. Surface runoff is sloe and erosior. <br />~ hazard is slight. <br />I • <br />This soil has a f]ucuatine :rater table durirs most of the year and iG <br />subject to occar,ional flooding during the spring ar.d summer months. <br />This soil is used mainly for irrigated pasture ar.d ranceland. <br />
