Rowe
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Steel Rose #1 Mine (File No. M-2006-031) (CHS # 48003)
Deaz Mr. Rowe:
Thank you for your correspondence dated May 11, 2006 (received by our office on May 12) concerning the
project listed above.
A search of our files indicates that a small portion of the proposed 20 acre permit area has been surveyed for
cultural resources and that no historic properties were located in that portion of the permit area. However,
our files contain incomplete information for this area, as most of Colorado has not yet been inventoried for
cultural resources. As a result, there is the possibility that as yet unidentified cultural resources exist within
that portion of the proposed permit area which has not been surveyed.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities, the requirements under State law CRS 24-80
part 13 apply and must be followed.
Please note that our roview of your project is expedited when you indicate the extent of the proposed
permit area on a legible portion of the appropriate and clearly identified 7.5 minute USGS topographic
map.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Greg Wolff,
Comp]iance Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674.
Sincerely,
eorgianna Contiguglia
Slate Historic Preservation Officer
GC/GAW
