III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
SEP 2 1978
September 15, 1978 ;f
Colo. Dept. of
Re: Application for a Mining Permit from Bestway Paving Co. ,
Greeley, Colorado
Dear Board Members:
As an owner of property within 500 feet of the above referenced
proposed gravel pit, I wish to go on record as objecting to the
issuance of a permit. I feel the description of the miring plan
is inaccurate and that the reclamation plan is incomplete. It does
not adequately detail how dust is to be controlled with the use of
water, nor does it sufficiently explain where the water is to came
fran and how it is to be used.
Further, the plan calls for returning the land to a farmable con-
dition through reclamation. I wonder how well farming can be
accomplished on a 3:1 slope. The plan also states no detailed
noise studies have been done. I would surely think that your
concern for the environment would require that such studies be done
by an impartial audiologist in order to protect the surrounding
inhabitants from the negative effects of noise pollution.
In addition, the traffic studies were misleading in that they were
done during the off-season. The report concludes that traffic
would be reduced because the operator would no longer need to truck
gravel into their asphalt production plant. The fact they failed
to develop was that the gravel is trucked in from a northerly direc-
tion while most of the residents are south of the land in question
and that most of the trucks leaving the plant and pit for jobs
travel south into the residential area. While traffic would pos-
sibly be reduced north of the site, it would increase to the south
since more gravel and asphalt would leave the site.
I am sure you will review the matter carefully and also conclude
that the plan is inadequate.
Sincerely, /
Vicki Reed, Ed.D.
415 35th Avenue Court
Greeley, Colorado 80631
