PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Physia9raphtc Features . <br />Uplands varying from gently sioping to fairly steep hiilsides <br />Oegrea of slope ranges from 0 to 65$. Olrection of slope is <br />not a factor. <br />Elevation on this site occurs from 6000 feet to 8000 feat above <br />sea level. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />Annual precipitation averages 14 to 18 Inches with about half <br />of the moisture occuring as snow. <br />Opt~rtum growing season for native plants is May 15 to July 15. <br />111nters are cold with good snow cover, averaging around 20° F. <br />The growing season averages about bi° F. <br />Late ,lyiy and the first of August (s the driest period. <br />3.' Rat:''+'a (pocentiaT) Vegetation <br />This Is a productive grassland community occuring in the upper <br />~~foathlils and lower oakbrush climatic zone. important grasses <br />are b'~uebunth, wheatgrass, muttongrass, slender wheatgrass, <br />needle and-threadgrass, and western wheatgrass.
