PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Physiographfc Features ~~ <br /> ...~- <br />~~ <br />Upiands varying from gently sloping to fairly steep hillsides. <br />Degree of slope ranges from 0 to 65e. Direction of slope is <br />not a factor. h•`-"~- <br /> <br />Elevation on this site occurs from 6000 feet to 8000 feet above ~= <br />saa level. - <br />~~ <br />2. Climatic Features • <br />Annual precipitation averages i4 to 18 Snches with about half <br />of.Che moisture occuring as snow. <br />^CL-num growing season for native plants is May 15 to July 15• <br />winters are cold with good snow cover, averaging around 20° F. <br />The graving season averages about 61° F. <br />Late July and the first of August is the driest period. <br />~._ Native (potential) Vegetation <br />This Is a p~oductlve grassland community occuring in the upper <br />foothills and lower oakbrush climatic zone. Important grasses <br />are bluebunch, wheatgrass, muttongrass, slender wheatgrass, <br />needle-and-threadgrass, and western wheatgrass. Principal <br />shrubs include big sagebrush, serviceberry, and snowberry. <br />Other plants include Indian paintbrush, Fremont p.enstemon, <br />lupine, low larkspur, arrowleaf balsamroot, fleabane, long- <br />leaf loco, and tapertip hawksbeard. <br />/~ <br />. • <br />
