~• MCC is requesting that the USFS allow us to leave the USFS road, which accesses the Thermal Event
Drill Pad Sites, in its present condition from Apache Rocks to the Thermal Event Area. This will
allow MCC to perform revegetation, reseeding, instal] sediment control measures, or complete
additional reclamation and vegetation monitoring activities during the bond liability period. MCC will
install road controls and water bars (rolling dips) as previously requested by the USFS.
Sediment control measures to be installed on the reclaimed azeas will include, silt fence, erosion
control netting, and strawbale sediment traps. The sediment control will remain in place until
sufficient vegetation is established to remove the structures (usually one growins season): Afrer
sediment control measures aze installed at the drill sites, the monuments for the former wells will be
erected according to State and Federal regulations. The land use of grazing and wildlife habitat will
remain the same.
An earthwork contractor will be selected in the near future to perform these final phases of reclamation
activities. It is anticipated that MCC will complete the reclamation activities in 6-R weeks (weather
permitting) afrer selection of the contractor. Equipment may be onsite 24-hours per day, 7 days per
week, until the project is complete. The equipment to be used in the reclamation project will include,
but not be limited to, dozers, loaders, track excavator, rubber-tired backhoe, water truck, wheeled
compactor and pick-up trucks. Revegetation will be performed using manual or mechanical methods
(i.e. straw blowers, tractors, hydro-mulch machines, and etc.) and or a combination of both methods.
• The request for authorization to proceed with reclamation at the Thermal Event Drill Site was sent to
the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology on June 27, ?001.
Please notify me if you have questions regarding this update and our request to proceed with
reclamation.
Sincer v,
. 1~~7cXJl.t.~-,C~
my .4. a be
Environmental Engineer
Enclosure: MR-270 Order of Earthwork Reclamation - 6/22/01
cc: P.
