• within the delineated lifts of the pit area will be mined alternately in this sequence.
Please observe the photos of the model in Appendix 5-3.
Prior to any of the mining events, woody plant species, (e. g., pinyon pine juniper,
serviceberry, chokecherry, or other large shrubs or trees), will be bladed into a brush
pile, in advance of soil salvage and stockpiling. Next, all available topsoil will be
removed and stored for redistribution as per Section 2.05.3(5).
Mining will begin in the dip-slope area of the North Pit and proceed to the outcrop of
the Lewis ("C") seam in segment A-1 in the west portion of Section No. 1 as shown on
Map 5-2. There is very little soil in this vicinity, but all that is available will be
removed and stockpiled in the topsoil stockpile. (See Map 5-l and J-2 for soil location
stockpiles). The overburden has been placed adjacent to segment A-1 on the west side
in the drainage. The mine plan map shows this area. The creation of work benches in
each segment will facilitate the construction of haul roads and ramps into the active
pit(s) above the coal seams on which the mining equipment will work. The surface
area for these segments is described below. The present status of mining as of this
submittal has been shown on Map 5-7.
Coal Remove/
• This section should be read and understood in conjunction with the discussion of
overburden movement. The wmbined area totals 14.4 acres and will require a span of
approximately fourteen months to mine. The time requirements to mine each segment
is: A-1: 2.2 months; C-1; 4.2 months, and portions of I-1 and I-2: 4.2 months.
An additional time span of about two to four months may be needed at this stage for
extraction of coal from segments D-1 and E-1 before segment C-1 is completely
backfilled, using spoil from segments E-1 and F-1. Phase I will carry over into
segment C-1 and D-1 until sufficient overburden and coal has been removed to
facilitate future haul road construction into segment D-1 and E-1, and segment C-1 can
be completely backfilled and regraded, as mentioned above. Thereafter, Phase [I will
begin. Phase II will continue to be bench mining in segments E-1 and F-1, with
concurrent backfilling behind the active pit.
Segment A-1 covers 0.8 acres, and C-1: 4.5 acres. Segment D-1 covers approximately
2.8 acres, and Segment E-1 covers 3.5 acres. The North Pit (coal Segments I-1 and I-
2) will be mined first and the reclamation will be complete when active mining begins
in the South Pit. Additional portions of Coal segment F-1 will be mined concurrently
with Segments C-1, D-1 and E-1 if the quantity of rock in those segments is not
adequate to complete the steady state pit. The balancing of the benches and pit size for
the desired tonnage dictates that the multiple segment be handled simultaneously. This
will conclude Phase I.
u
Technical Revision 08 (v 1.3) Sfi Revised 9/1997
