Location and Setting
~~
Exhibit D - Minim Plan
This is an application for a Regular 112 permit to mine gravel at a
site located in Montrose County approximately 2.5 miles northwest of
Montrose. The site is on a low terrace formed by the historic occupation
of the UncarQ~ahgre River. However, the area to be mined lies several
hundred west of the modern location of the river at its closest approach.
The upper surface of the area to be mined has minimal relief, ranging from
nearly level to about one percent. The surrounding land uses to the north,
west and south are primarily agricultural. Riverbottom land lies to the
east.
Access
An existing access is located directly off Lasalle Road (a county
road), along the south side of the affected area. A river crossing, either
by bridge and/or conveyor, located on the northeast side of the site, will
be constructed and also used for access and transporting materials from the
site. The Exhibit C map illustrates the permit area, access and other
pertinent features.
Soil Salvage
Topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled for use in reclamation. The
depth of the surface soil suitable for use in reclamation, and
corresponding depth to be stripped, depends on location on site but
generally ranges from about four to 12 inches (weighted average of about
seven inches).
The Exhibit C map included herein illustrates the anticipated
locations of topsoil stockpiles. All stockpiling will occur near the
-4-
