Blast Vibration Analysis: Proposed MMRR Quarry
Page 10
With a potential range of vibration frequencies ranging from 10-100 Hz, determining the actual
frequency of the blast induced vibration prior to onset of quarry operations is difficult if not
impossible. A theoretical analysis of a structure's natural frequencies can determine its resonant
frequencies and responses. However, from a practical standpoint, a structure's natural frequencies
are unknown until it is excited in some way. Unfortunately, in this case determining the actual
response through a series of initial blasts based on the Scaled Distance Formula may result in 1)
impairment to highway lighting with resulting adverse impacts to the public safety of vehicles
traveling on Highway 119 and 2) potential repair and replacement expenses for the District.
©Leonard Rice Engineers, Inc.
