M-2000-030
Dear Mr. Gillis,
gp9~C~~~FO
1
-,,.,,, /,:;;n,h~ X00
The Cdoredo Division of Wildlife (CDOW) reviewed the permit application for the grevel pit mentioned above
and would offer the following comments for your consideration. The CDOW habitat biologist for the Durengo and
San Juan Basin area, Chris Kloster, provided commerts regarding this project at an earlier date to the applicant
(see enclosure). Kloster commented that the project would have a minimal long-term impact a on the wildlife
and habtat in the area and tfien suggested recommendations to consider and implement into the permit
guidelines when reclaiming the mined site. The CDOW continues to support those comments and
recommendations made by Kloster at this time.
In addition to the commerrts and recommendations made, the CDOW would like to add one more
recommendation to the reclamation section of the permit. We suggest that the applipnt add severe) native forb
spades to the seed mixture planned for restoration and reclamation of the disturbance site and area. Currently,
the mixture only consists of severe) native grass spades. Adding the (orbs to the seed mixture will help diversify
the vegetation composition and benefit wildlife with the extra diversity of forage.
If you, your agency or the applicant have any questions or concerns, please contact Kloster a myself at the
Durango Area Office at 247 -0855. The CDOW appredated commenting on this project and would offer to
comment on any project that will involve arrd/a impact wildlife and its habtat.
Sincerely,
~~~
Melody Miller
District Wildlife Manager
Cc: Lex Treughber - L.a Plata County Planning Department
Enclosure: CDOW comments for permit application
DEPARTMFM OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Grey Welcher, Exea~e D'vecSor
WILDIJFE COMMISSION, Renard L Black Chakman • Rick Fltstrom,l(ice-Chairman • F1ri James, Seaefary
.
