Peter O`Connor
February 12, 1985
Page Three
Exhibit G = Hydrology
Noted.
Exhibit H - Wildlife
Division of Wildlife evaluation is in progress and will be
forwarded when available.
Exhibit L - Reclamation Costs
Reclamation costs have been entirely reassessed and expressed
using a different Format for simple interpretation. The previous
format included some disturbances twice and seemed to be
confusing.
Operator agrees with your estimated costs and recommend
increasing the .ripping cost of $50/hour to $60/hour for
scarifying. One foot of topsoil or 1,613 cubic yards is
accounted for - in:;tead of the eight inch estimate given by MLRB.
Also, the operai:or gives mare explanation of mining and
reclamation procedures for this particular site.
Very little I~ackfilling will take place in this operation,
as stated in the pE~rmit, due to the gravel seam thickness of 2 to
14 feet, with a 7 foot average. Overburden that is not useable
aggregate is extr~icted and hauled straight to the 2 acre parcel
being reclaimed. The loader extracts just what can ge to the
crusher, leaving little, if any, material to be used for
backfilling.
This method of mining doesn't allow for grading since there
is no overburden t.o be replaced. Proper compaction and seedbed
preparation will bey accomplished as the topsoil is laid down with
a scraper or end loader. This also applies following
scarification of the plant site and roads. After the ground
surface is broken up, topsoil can be spread, mixed in and
effectively take hold. This method is more effective than
grading, and compacting, which allows topsoil to be susceptible
to sliding after it is laid down. Spreading topsoil on this
slightly rough and variable surface also provides the best seed
bed and aids in mositure retention, preventing possible erosion
problems.
If you have any questions regarding these methods or costs,
please call.
