Doc Date:1211112001 II I I II I II I II IIII III
sss
• SI~ 4.15 REVEGETATION
J
4.15.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
All presently or potentially disturbed lands in the vicinity of the
Southfield mine and loadout areas were utilized as rangeland and wildlife
habitat prior to disturbance. It is EFCI's objective to reclaim these
areas to similar land uses and capabilities following reclamation. This
will be accomplished by planting and managing those species that will
achieve this purpose most effectively. The species selected are
predominantly native species which are well adapted to site conditions,
can be effectively re-established, and which have proven value as forage
for wildlife and domestic livestock. All disturbed areas that will not
be retained as access roads, impoundments or approved facilities in
conjunction with the post-mining land use, will be revegetated.
Revegetation methodologies have been selected which will result in
• effective re-establishment and productivity levels comparable to these
which existed prior to disturbance.
Species to be seeded and transplanted at the mine and loadout areas have
been selected based on those species which can be effectively established
and sustained on reclaimed mine lands, as documented by studies in the
closely related areas of ecology and agronomy. These species will provide
for rapid stabilization, prevent erosion, meet regulatory shrub density
requirements, provide vegetative diversity, and establish effective winter
browse for wildlife and livestock species.
EFCI will cooperate with surface owners to maintain any necessary fences
and implement effective management practices to exclude wildlife and
grazing livestock from reclaimed areas. It remains EFCI's intention to
exclude livestock and wildlife from these areas during the reclamation
process until revegetated areas can support managed grazing use.
Upon completion of permanent reclamation activities, individual reclaimed
areas will be monitored to evaluate revegetation success relative to
established referenced areas or negotiated revegetation success criteria.
4.15-1
