This investigation will
identify the soils plant growth limitations which include acidity,
alkalinity, potential toxicity, or other inhibitory characteristics.
Topsoil quality ratings will be assigned to each stockpile. These
ratings are based upon topsoil suitability guidelines established
by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and bbntana
Department of State Lards.
MEPfiODS
•
Topsoil quality ratings for stoc}.~piles 1 through 10 are contaired
in the Soil Survey, Tab 9. Additional soil samples were collected
at topsoil stockpile sites 11, 12, and 13 (see Exhibit 9-2) on
October 25, 1979 to determine their soil chemical and physical
characteristics. The samples sere shipped to and analyzed at
Peabody's Central Laboratory in Freeburg, Illinois. Standard
laboratory handling and analysis procedures sere used (Appendix 6-3).
RESITLTS
The chemical and physical parameter concentrations for topsoil
stockpile sites 11, 12, and 13 are listed in Table 9-6. Recom-
mended inhibitory concentrations are also listed in Table 9-6.
These chemical and physical values are all within the recarunended
concentration limits set for selecting suitable reclamation top-
soil material. There are no excess salt or sodium problems nor
86
•
