B) Regrade all piles of gravel material from active area. Estimated total volume is 6000 cubic yards.
Cost is estimated at $0.50 per cubic yard, since a dozer can do the work and move distance should be
less than 130 feet with mild grade. Total cost is therefore 6000 cy x $0.50 = $3000.
Very little regrading will be needed on the rest of the site since the worst case scenario assumes that
the east side is already graded and topsoiled and the west side has been stripped of soil but not yet
disturbed.
C) Retopsoiling will be needed for the west mine area, which will have a disturbed area of 12.4
acres. At an average replacement depth of 7 inches, the volume needed is 11670 cubic yards. This
volume would be obtained from the south berm and the excess stockpile that would be present in the
east area. The work could be done with scrapers and/or trucks/loaders. The average haul distance for
this work is approximately 650 feet and the average grade is 2%. Normally, this work can be done for
$0.75 per cubic yard. Costs are therefore 11670 cy x 50.75 = $8752.
D) Once the topsoil is placed, ripping and/or harrowing will be done to ensure that the topsoil is not
compacted before seeding is undertaken. This will either be done with a Cat D-8 with multi-shank
• ripper or with a tractor and faun harrow. This work will be done over the entire 29.0 acre retopsoiled
area. Cost are estimated at 5180 per acre x 29.0 acres = 55220.
E)The outlet ditch for the east mine area must be cut so that the area drains after reclamation. This
involves digging a trench and moving approximately 250 cubic yards of material. The ditch will then
be lined with large washed gravel. Estimated costs are 5800.
F) The revegetation plan calls for drill seeding the appropriate seed mix, crimp mulching I.~ tons per
acre and fertilizing according to soil test results. Judging by past experience at many sites and
knowing that there are no exotic seeds in the revegetation mix, the estimated unit cost of the work is
$640/acre. The costs for broadcast seeding and mulching on the 2:1 slopes are approximately the
same. Costs are therefore 5640/acre x 29.0 acres = 518560.
Adding A through F above results in a total direct reclamation cost of 540,532.
•
Carol Ann Permit CDMG Application 63
