Brad James
of the Colorado !lined Land Declamation Board, I would recommend the following
items be added to the permit applications for the Koenig, David Ranch and
Pierce pits.
DAMS RAFJCIi and KOENIG PITS
1. As a result of the mining process, we anticipate that there will be some
uneveness or irregularity in the bottom and banks of the pits. Curing the rec-
lamation process, many of these depressed areas and irregularities should be pre-
served to present a more natural habitat for fish and wildlife.
2. As indicated on the Extraction Plan ~:aps and Reclamation Plan Paps, a bar-
rier strip shall be maintained between the pit and the river. Rs a general
rule the barrier strip shall have a minimum width of 100 feet.
3. Topsoil shall be stripped from all areas to be affected by tF:e mining op-
eration. stockpiled separate from other material, and protected against erosion.
Curing the reclamation operation following filling and grading, topsoil will be
spread over all affected areas to a minimum depth of six inches.
4. The seeding rates and mixtures, as recommended by the Soil Conservation Ser-
vice, shall be as follows:
Common Name Variety % in Stand lbs. *PLS/Ac. in Mixture
Sand bluestem Elida 20 3.2
(Andropogon hallii)
Side oats grams Vaughn 15 1.4
(Bouteloua curtipendula)
Prairie sandreed * 20 1.3
(Calamovilfa longifolia)
*Seed source from within 150 miles of planting site is recommended.
engineering civil, sanitary & structural planning
1024 8th Street Greeley, Colorado 80631 (303) 352-5780
