' 16
EXHIBIT E - SOILS
' The soil mapping units that occur on the area are classified
' as rock outcrop and Edloe sandy loam 3 to 45% slopes . (l) The
rock outcrop mapping unit occurs on 3 of the 4 acres contained
in the proposed permit area. The mapping unit is dominated by
granite and sandstone , with thin soils occurring in patches be-
tween rocks. These soils are non-calcareous and range in texture
' from loamy sand to loam and occur on 3-10% of the area. The SCS
land capability unit for this mapping unit is VIII .
The Edloe soil unit occurs on one acre out of the 4 acres
contained in the proposed permit boundary. The soil is a deep to
' moderately deep, gravelly, soil developing from Pike 's Peak granite.
' A typical pedon can be found in Table 3 . Typically the surface
layer is light gray sandy loam about 5 inches thick. In most
' places the surface layer is covered with 1 to 2 inches of organic
matter. The subsoil is brown and light reddish brown , gravelly
' sandy clay loam about 22 inches thick. The underlying material
1 is a brown , very gravelly sandy clay loam about 9 inches thick
which rests on granite. Permeability of the Edloe soil is mod-
, , erate as is available water capacity . The primary limiting soil
features are depth to rock and steep slopes . The SCS soil capa-
bility subclass is VIe .
1 (1)
Source : Soil Conservation Service , Cripple Creek, Dennis
Davidson, 9/82 .
1
