Included are
some long, narrow streak's of sdnd and gravel deposits. Typically the sur-
face layer is grayish brown clay loam about 12 inches thick. The subsoil
is grayish brown clay loam about 15 inches thick. Depth to sand and gravel
ranges from 20 to 40 inches. Permeability is moderately slow and available
water capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth is 20 to 40 inches,
surface run-off is slow, and erosion hazard is slow.
D. Suitability for Plant Growth
The Altvan loam soil is suited for all crops conmonly grown in the area.
blindbreaks and environmental plantings are generally well suited on this soil.
All trees and shrubs adapted to this area will grow. This soil can produce
habitat elements highly suitable for openland wildlife including pheasants,
cottontail and mourning doves.
