To the southeast of the newly
proposed Schumacher Pit is the Neinhuser Gravel Pit. The mining is expected
to begin as soon as possible after a permit is obtained. The operation will
provide material for construction of new wind generation facilities neaz Peetz.
The majority of materials will be removed in the first two years of operation
for the wind generation project. Once that construction is complete, use will
probably be for local road projects. The estimated life of the pit is indefinite.
b) Actual topsoil at the site is very Limited -only about 3". The topsoil will be
stripped, stockpiled, and utilized when the pit is reclaimed. The topsoil
stockpile will be in the very northeast comer of the pit area.
c) There would appear to be no waste rock or material at the site.
d) Mining is anticipated to a depth of up to 30 feet. The mining plan is to begin
at the north side of the pit along the west side of a roadway leading to an
existing wind generation tower. It will proceed west and south from that
point. That large azea will be mined in two phases The eastern neck of the
property will be the third and last area to be mined.
e) The pit will be accessed from Co. Rd. 45 and the existing Turbine Access
Road along the north edge of the pit azea. There will be no shop, plant, or
other facilities located at the mine site. The equipment used to mine the
gravel will beprimarily afront-end loader, a tractor with blade, and tracks. At
some point during the operation a bulldozer and a scraper may be employed.
Some screening could occur at the site. All of the equipment will be serviced
off premises. Re-fueling of equipment will occur on site.
f) There are no existing disturbances to describe at the site.
g) The site sits immediately adjacent to Co. Rd. 45. No new roads will be built
to access the permit area. There will be temporary haul roads inside the pit
area, but they will be removed as reclamation occurs.
h) No water is anticipated in conjunction with the operation. There could be
instances when heavy rainfall makes the site too muddy to continue. At those
times, mining will simply cease until the site becomes dry enough to mine
again.
i) Mining will not go into the groundwater at the site.
j) Since no water is to be used, there should be no injury to existing water rights.
